Pitágoras Architectos designed the new Platform of Arts and Creativity for its hometown north of Porto. Guimarães was European Capital of Culture in 2012, and for the occasion, the market square was redesigned as a multi-purpose public space. A metallic, shimmering building with a facade of vertical metal rods, interrupted by glass surfaces, now marks the entrance zone. Shops in the existing buildings on the other side are still dedicated to the square’s original function as centre of communication.
